Pleated dresses are iconic. Marilyn Monroe. Seven Year Itch. New York subway grate. Billowing, white pleated dress. Ring a bell? I’m sure it does. Who would NOT remember the scene that made the outfit, the actress and the movie, immortal? Pleated dresses are what Hollywood movies are made of. They are a symbol of plush lifestyle, a life that is more than ordinary. Pleated dresses are simple, yet fabulous. You wear one of these dresses, and everyone else pales in comparison.

Old pleated dresses can be easily spiced up. What this means is, if you own a pleated dress, you can never be bored with it. Why? Generally, pleated dresses’ main design is their pleats. Designers rarely put anything on it since the pleats on the dress is enough to make a statement. If anything, some designers like Dior and Halston may throw in subtle details such as a sash, lace, minimal beadwork and eyelet among others. Pleated dresses will always be fresh. Dresses come in various types of pleats. There’s the traditional box pleats commonly found in an evening wear. At the other end of the spectrum are accordion pleats. Dresses with these pleats are more casual and are perfect for day wear. A pleated dress with delicate pleated accents and drapes is sophisticated and classic. This dress is perfect for you if you are into a softer, goddess-like look. If you are a fan of edgy outfits, there are sharp geometric styles to choose from.

When it comes to accentuating, contrasting colors are favored--i.e. solid white chiffon dress with ruby red silk sash, black lace on ivory, etc--for a more dramatic and striking presentation. Some designers, on the other hand, are using printed silk fabrics to create the same stunning effect.
